Leslie Frazier Says Christian Ponder Will Remain Vikings Starter

leslie frazier christian ponder

The Minnesota Vikings finished the season 10-6, lost to the Packers in the first round of the playoffs and had a successful season.

Some pundits will say that Vikings are a quarterback away, or need to address the quarterback position.  Whatever improvements the Vikings make will be made Ponder, because NFL.com is reporting that head coach Leslie Frazier wants to make it clear that Ponder will be the team’s quarterback next season

“He’s our starter,” Frazier told reporters Tuesday.

Ponder had an up and down season, but finished the year on a high note making several big throws in that week 17 win over the Packers that got Minnesota to the playoffs.

Entering his third year, Ponder should continue to make strides.

Eagles To Interview Lovie Smith Thursday

Eagles Lovie Smith

Former Chicago Bears head coach Lovie Smith was the most shocking firing during that black Monday spree that saw seven head coaches get pink slips.

Smith is still a hot name and has garnered several interviews since last week.  ESPN is reporting that the Philadelphia Eagles will interview Smith on Thursday.

The 4-12 Eagles fired former coach Andy Reid on that memorable Monday. The 54-year-old Smith was fired even though the Bears were 10-6 this season because he could never produce a consistent offense, and he missed the playoffs 5 out of the last 6 seasons.

The Eagles will also interview Colts offensive coordinator Bruce Arians and Bengals offensive coordinator Jay Gruden.

Rex Ryan Says He Will Change The Tattoo If Sanchez Doesn’t Play Better

rex ryan sanchez tattoo

Last week Rex Ryan took a quick vacation to the Bahamas to escape the Jets mess as I like to proclaim it.  During the quiet vacation, things got really noisy again for Rex when he was photographed on the beach, and on his right arm was a tattoo of his wife wearing nothing but a Mark Sanchez jersey.

Ryan took it all in stride like he does everything, and knew he would have to face the music upon addressing the media today.

Ryan addressed it really quickly the Star-Ledger is reporting.  With humor only Rex Ryan can, joked that if Sanchez doesn’t improve, he’ll get a new tattoo.

“I know what you’re thinking: ‘If Sanchez doesn’t play better that number is changing,'” Ryan joked today.

“I’ve been married for 25 years and through my eyes my wife is the most beautiful woman in the world,” Ryan said.

You alright with me Rex.

Rex Ryan Says His Guaranteed Salary Won’t Dictate If Sanchez Starts

rex ryan mark sanchez

Jets head coach Rex Ryan returned from his celebrated vacation to face the New York media and answer questions about his future and that of the team.

Ryan was asked about quarterback Mark Sanchez and his guaranteed $8.5 million dollar salary.  Ryan gave Sanchez no vote of confidence, and according to the New York Daily News, let it be known that Sanchez’s salary will not dictate whether or not he starts.

“Money, the financial part of it….will not have any of the considerations for it,” Ryan said. “We’ll play the player that fits what we do best. What we believes gives us the best chance.”

“We have to get an offensive coordinator in place, then we’ll address it from there,” Ryan said. “Obviously, the situation, whoever the offensive coordinator is, his system, there’s going to be a lot of things that go into it.”

Owner Woody Johnson was also asked about Sanchez and his finances, and for the first time in a while, he and Ryan were on the same page.

“Every year there’s competition among players.” That’s true at some positions, but Sanchez has been the Jets’ unquestioned starter for years.

So that means Mark Sanchez if you are reading this, even if you makes $2 million more than Michael Vick when he gets there, he still may start over you.

Dr. James Andrews Says Mike Shanahan Didn’t Lie About RG3′s Knee

RG3, Dr. James Andrews

Karma works in mysterious ways, and I should know.  Two days before the Redskins battled the Seahawks in the divisional round of the playoffs, there was drama surrounding whether or not Robert Griffin III should have been allowed to return to the Ravens game after taking a vicious hit from Haloti Ngata.

Renowned orthopedist Dr. James Andrews caused the stir when he said that RG3 didn’t allow him to look at his knee, and that he wasn’t cleared to return to the game.

Griffin III would go on to hurt himself again Sunday against Seattle and may require some sort of surgery. In the meantime we are still in the process of figuring out who lied about RG3 returning to the Ravens games.

If you ask Dr. James Andrews now, he’ll tell you no one lied.  Andrews told the Washington Post yesterday that his words to the USA Today were misconstrued, and that mike Shanahan didn’t lie about RG3’s knee.

“Coach Shanahan didn’t lie about it, and I didn’t lie,” Andrews said. “I didn’t get to examine [Griffin’s knee] because he came out for one play, didn’t let us look at him and on the next play, he ran through all the players and back out onto the field. Coach Shanahan looks at me like, ‘Is he OK?’ and I give him the ‘Hi’ sign as in, ‘He’s running around, so I guess he’s OK.’ But I didn’t get to check him out until after the game. It was just a communication problem. Heat of battle. I didn’t get to tell him I didn’t get to examine the knee. Mike Shanahan would never have put him out there at risk just to win a game.”

Somebody’s lying.

Dolphins Will Target Greg Jennings In Free Agency

Minnesota Vikings v Green Bay Packers

Valyncia Jennings is the sister of Packers wide receiver Greg Jennings, an Aaron Rodgers hater, and down right rude on twitter.

Could she be able to tell the future also.  During her twitter rant in which she bashed Aaron Rodgers, and called him overrated, she also hinted at Jennings taking his talents to South Beach.

Does she know something we don’t, did she and her brother talk about his future endeavors already.  Whatever the conversation is, Jennings will be a free agent this season, and it’s highly unlikely the Packers give him a big money deal.

That means other organizations will be on the hunt for a guy they feel can be a dominant number 1 receiver.  Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald found Valyncia Jennings tweets amusing, but does indeed agree that Jennings will be a big free agent target for a team that has $47 million in cap space.

Jackson: The Dolphins will consider making a serious run at Jennings in March.

The Dolphins will have a ton of money to spend on guys like Jennings and Dwayne Bowe, their own Reggie Bush, Ryan Clady and Cliff Avril.

Reggie Wayne Calls Ray Lewis Dance On Final Play Disrespectful

reggie-wayne-ray-lewis

Ray Lewis played his final home game as a Baltimore Raven this past Sunday, and it was an emotional and thrilling event. There was Roger Goodell rushing to Baltimore to greet Lewis, tributes, and one final pregame “squirrel dance.”

Except it wasn’t the final squirrel dance he would do Sunday afternoon.  On the games final play the Ravens allowed Lewis to line up as the up back in the victory formation, and after the final kneel, Lewis broke out the squirrel dance once more.

Colts wide receiver and fellow Miami Hurricane Reggie Wayne didn’t take kindly to Lewis doing the dance again, and according to NFL.com Wayne felt Lewis was disrespectful in doing it on that final play.

“I saw it as disrespectful,” Wayne said Monday on WNDE-AM in Indianapolis. “They’d already had a tribute every quarter.”

I think Wayne is a little salty about his season being over.  If it was anyone else, yea I could see the fuss.  It’s the one and only Ray Lewis.

Jets Fire Offensive Coordinator Tony Sparano

jets fire sparano

Things have been quiet for the Jets mess for a few days, but things are now back to normal.  After floating in the wings for a few days the team has officially fired offensive coordinator Tony Sparano per ESPN’s Chris Mortensen.

jets fire sparano

Sparano was brought in with the intentions of spicing up the Jets offense with innovation, and utilizing Tim Tebow in the wildcat formation.

Instead he got one long embarrassing year, and will take the fall for an offense that was putrid and inept for most of the season.

Andy Reid Says He Needs To Find The Next Len Dawson

andy reid kansas city chiefs

Andy Reid was introduced as the Chiefs new head coach today, and after saying his goodbyes to Philadelphia, praising his new city and just down right being cordial, Pro Football Talk is reporting that Reid will now focus on finding a quarterback, or as he put it, “the next Len Dawson.”

“I have looked at the roster and there are some good football players on this football team,” Reid said. “The quarterback position, I’m going to dig in and look at that and we’ll build that thing. We’ll see how that whole thing builds out. I need to spend some time working at it, though. I’ve got to find that next Len Dawson, doggone it. It might be right here, it might not.”

“We’ve been blessed with the No. 1 pick in the draft,” Reid said. “You want to make sure you do the right thing and pick the right guy for that. Not necessarily a quarterback — it doesn’t have to be a quarterback. It has to be the right thing. You don’t want to force anything at that point. People that do that get themselves in trouble.”

I’m not sure he was referring to Matt Cassel, Brady Quinn or Ricky Stanzi, when suggesting he wanted the next Len Dawson.  Dawson was a Hall of Famer who played for the franchise from 1962 to 1975 and was the MVP of Super Bowl IV.
