Victor Cruz Positive He’ll Sign Long Term Deal With Giants

victor cruz positive about deal

The Giants season has ended, premature and short of the playoffs, but the G-Men still have work to do.   Giants wide receiver Victor Cruz is coming off back to back pro bowl seasons, and set to become a restricted free agent in March.

Cruz would like to avoid the perils of the franchise tag and the frustration that comes along with it, and according to the New York Daily News, Cruz is positive he’ll sign a long-term extension with the Giants.

“I feel comfortable where we’re at,” Cruz said. “I think I’ve done enough to show them I’m a good guy on and off the field, and that I’ve done everything positive up until this point to prove that I’m somebody that the organization will want to keep around for a long time.

“So I’m comfortable in that. I’m positive things will come around and a positive outcome will come out of all this.’’

Cruz followed up his break out 2011 season with another great 2012 season in which he made the Pro Bowl, and had 86 catches, 1,092 yards, 10 touchdowns.

“Obviously you never know,” he said. “It’s all negotiations. But I feel positive that I’m going to be in New York for a very long time, and I feel positive that myself and my agents will get something done with the management of the Giants.”

The Giants are retooling, and Cruz is a piece they need in the fold, without distraction or issues.

Dez Bryant Says Playing With Finger Injury Is About Mental Toughness

dez bryant mental toughness

Dallas Cowboys wide receiver Dez Bryant is finally displaying the pro bowl potential scouts and the Cowboys thought he had coming out of Oklahoma State.

Bryant is playing through a fractured index finger and a ton of pain.  Bryant spoke with ESPN Dallas on the matter, and just acknowledged it was about having “mental toughness.”

“This finger (it’s about) just mental toughness, that’s all,” Bryant said after Friday’s practice as the Cowboys prepare for Sunday’s game against the New Orleans Saints. “If I felt like it was going to bring me down, I probably couldn’t be out here doing what I’m doing. I don’t think about it as much. I don’t feel the pain. I just go out and play football.”

“Each and every week, it boosts my confidence just to know that Tony (Romo) believes in me,” Bryant said. “I feel like I’m still working on it more, for Tony to trust me. I’m going to just keep doing what he wants me to do. I’m going to keep paying attention. I’m going to keep focused and see where it goes.”

The light has finally went on for Dez Bryant and it’s an awesome thing to watch.

Stevie Johnson Makes Ridiculous One Handed Grab Against Seattle (GIF)

NFL: Seattle Seahawks vs Buffalo Bills

The Buffalo Bills aren’t doing much this season and are getting blown out by Seattle 47-17 right now.

Bills wide receiver Stevie Johnson is having another solid season, and hauled in a one-handed catch from Ryan Fitzpatrick today that rivaled the catch Eagles wide receiver Jason Avant made last week.

I’ll let my readers decide which catch was better.

Rex Ryan Is Fine With Braylon’s Idiot Comment, Says He’s Been Called Worse

Jets wide receiver Braylon Edwards must have a bit of good karma after all.  A week after calling the people who run the Jets(Rex Ryan) idiots, Edwards is back with his former team.

Ryan was asked about the infamous twitter comments from Edwards and provided a surprising response.  According to Manish Mehta of the New York Daily News, Ryan is fine with the comments.

“There’s a lot of comments that get fired at me, so I’m OK with them,” Ryan said, via Manish Mehta of the New York Daily News. “He knows what I’ve always thought about Braylon. I’ve always been a big fan of Braylon’s because I like the way he plays. So I think that comment . . . There’s things privately where I’ve been called a lot worse from players.”

Rex either really loves Braylon, or knows he needs to get to 9-7 and make the playoffs.  Braylon Edwards gives Rex a better shot at that and right now that’s all he cares about.

Jason Avant Was Not Impressed With His One Handed Catch Against Bucs (Video)

Eagles wide receiver Jason Avant had a one-handed catch against Tampa Bay Sunday that was a potential play of the year candidate.

You would think Avant would be feeling himself and the catch he made, but according to the Newark Star-Ledger, Avant is not impressed at with the catch, just the win.

“Impressed? I was excited to make the play,” Avant said of the second-quarter grab in the Eagles’ 23-21 victory over the Bucs. “I don’t like to say that about myself. You just move onto the next play.”

Avant stated he’s made better catches than that one.   He eventually came around and stated that the catch is up there with some of his better receptions ever.

“It’s up there,” he said. “Some of the ones where I got banged around are probably more meaningful to you. When you get hit and hold onto the ball, those are a lot harder for me. Moments are more important as well, like some of the catches you had when we were going to the NFC Championship.”

Brandon Marshall Says He Hates The Packers, Dares Them To Play Him One On One

Chicago Bears mercurial wide receiver Brandon Marshall is one of the most talented and emotional players in the league.

It’s no surprise that months after being held to his worst outing of the season, a 2 catch 24 yard game against the Packers, Marshall is ready to go and running his mouth to stir the pot.

Marshall spoke USA Today recently and let it be known he “hates the Packers,” and this is “the biggest game of his life.”

“I don’t like the Green Bay Packers. I’m not going to use the word ‘hate,’ but I really dislike the Packers and their players,” Marshall said. “But you know what? The talk has to back it up. We’ll go out there and do everything we have to do to get a win.”

Marshall wouldn’t get into specifics about his hate for the Packers, but did point out that Charles Woodson and Tramon Williams were very disrespectful last game.

“you’ll have to go on Google or something,”

Marshall is also daring the Packers to play him one on one this game.

“I didn’t beat double and triple coverage or whatever they were throwing at me. I take it as a slap in my face when guys are talking about my lack of ability to do something against them when they have help all over the place,” Marshall said. “I’m looking forward to one-on-one coverage. Hopefully, those guys, in a game like this, will go to their coach and say, ‘Let me have him. I want Brandon Marshall. I want to stop Brandon Marshall.’ Let’s see what happens.”

“I don’t know. I mean, the way some people talk is like they did that. I would love their play to back up their talk,” Marshall said.

Jerry Jones Says Dez Will Make Decision On Playing Or Having Surgery On Finger

As we reported last night, Cowboys wide receiver Dez Bryant suffered a serious injury to his index finger Sunday against Cincinnati.

Speculation has been rampant since last night about whether or not Bryant will have surgery or try to play with the injury.

The Star Telegram via 105.3 Fan is reporting that the ultimate decision will be up to Dez according to Cowboys owner Jerry Jones.

“Dez will the the ultimate decision-maker as to whether or not he wants to continue to try to play with a lot of protection or whether he should have surgery. The reason for the surgery is because you could have a life-lasting stiffness there.”

Jones said the team is still reviewing all medical options at this point.

“It has not been decided,” Jones said.

Hand specialist have said if Bryant chooses to wait on the surgery, it could have a lasting effect on his finger, leaving it with some stiffness permanently.

Big decision Dez, but the choice is yours.

Plaxico Burress Says Gun Ownership Not An NFL Issue But A Societal One

DIGIPIX

The sadness of the Jovan Belcher case will engulf those in the sports world for a long time.

People will wonder why it happened, could it have been avoided, and is gun ownership the cause of such tragedy.

Steelers wide receiver Plaxico Burress is all to familiar with the drama handguns can cause in a person’s life.

Burress did close to two years in prison after shooting himself in a New York nightclub four years ago.

Burress is saddened by the Belcher incident, but doesn’t think it will change anything, because it’s a societal issue.

“It’s not really the culture of the NFL, it’s about what’s going on in society today.”

“It will (be a topic) for a little while. But over time something else will happen, and we’ll be having the same discussion then,” Burress told USA TODAYSports by phone this week.

“Things like this happen to people every day. It just happened to be Jovan, somebody that we knew. That’s why we’re having this discussion. But it goes on in society all the time.”

Burress is aware of the stigma that violent athletes and handguns go hand in hand, but insist it’s a stigma of society that filters into the NFL.

“It’s definitely a personal thing because you make up your mind to own it,” Burress said. “Whether you want to own a gun or not, that’s up to you.

“People are going to make up their mind about what they’re going to do. I’ve had conversations with guys about my incident and what happened. Unfortunate things can happen, but it ultimately comes down to the person.

“You can speak to somebody until you’re blue in the face, but people are going to do what they’re going to do,” he added. “That’s just the way it is. You can encourage people and give them different options on whatever they want to do, but at the end of the day people are going to make their own.”

I agree with Burress in that gun ownership is a choice.

I know plenty of people who own handguns and are perfect citizens, and use their weapon for the range or simple protection.

Just as gun ownership is a choice, what you do with that weapon and how you handle adverse situations is also a choice.

Larry Fitzgerald Doesn’t Know Whether To Laugh Or Cry At Cardinals Offense

fitz

Larry Fitzgerald used to be the first name that would come out of people’s mouths when you talked about the best receivers in the game.

Fitzgerald is stuck on scrub island at this point, as he’s the best wide receiver in football with no quarterback to get him the ball.

The frustration you must feel having your prime NFL years wasted.

Fitzgerald is not depressed about though as he keeps his spirits up, and according to Larry Brown Sports, Fitzgerald is not sure how to respond.

“I have no words,” Fitzgerald said according to the Arizona Republic. “I have to laugh to keep from crying.”

Skip Bayless needs to cut bait with Tebow, and Free Fitzgerald.
